Our very own Steve Shaw honoured!
We are thrilled to celebrate our volunteer, Steve Shaw, who has just been honoured with a Disability Award at the Cambridgeshire Lawn Tennis Association Awards. Steve puts in an extraordinary amount of work – all unpaid – encouraging and supporting disabled players to take up and continue playing the game. He has even persuaded our own John Willis to join in the social doubles at Cambridge LTC. He is also a fabulous volunteer-supporter at our Power2Inspire events, coming to the fore at our last two Festivals of Inclusive Tennis and the Super Sensory 1K. More power to your elbow, Steve! Cambridge Half Marathon 2019 - Congratulations!!
Congratulations to our amazing runners in this year’s Cambridge Half Marathon, both raising money and running for Power 2 Inspire!
Isabelle Hitchcock and Fenella Sunaway (pictured below) both ran stunning times of under 1 hour 40 minutes, despite the rain(!), and raised great funds for Power 2 Inspire which will be used to help make sport inclusive for all!
This is what Isabelle had to say:
“It was my pleasure, thank you for giving me the opportunity to run for such a great charity and at a fantastic event!
The atmosphere was amazing and gave me all the energy to get a PB on my half marathon time in an hour and 36 minutes.”

A huge well done and thank you to Justin Ott for completing his second Half Marathon in 2018, and raising over £1000 for Power 2 Inspire.
Thanks too to Don Hutchinson of Cambridge Triathlon club for cheering him all the way through the course, and also to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire’s Charlie Thompson for supporting and featuring the event.

Funds for Training
We are delighted to announce we have been awarded £3,000 jointly by the iWill Fund in Cambridgeshire and the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire awards scheme. This is to train groups of up to 20 students in the art of leadership so they can run a Power House Games for a local primary school.
We are looking for 10 schools with students in Years 8, 9 or 10 who would benefit from “the opportunity to develop new skills/confidence and to deploy these for the benefit of the community”. By teaching them inclusive and adapted sports and the leadership skills to deliver a games, we raise their confidence and encourage them to host a games for younger pupils, who may or may not include students with special needs.
Ely College
On Thursday 13 December we are starting a new programme with Ely College, focussing on DT innovation for disabled people. John Willis will share his average day with DT students and invite them in groups to identify one challenge for them to work on in improving how John copes with life. Challenges might include, how to turn the rear windscreen wiper in John’s car through coping with all zips on his trousers! If there are any schools interested in a similar programme, please get in touch.
Justin’s Jaunt
Intrepid Justin Ott, fellow ‘incubatee’ at the Future Business Centre and MD of Spark EV – check out their innovative electric vehicles route reassurance app – has completed one half marathon and needs to complete a second to win a bet and ensure a significant donation to Power2inspire.
This has been a real challenge to Justin, who is not a real runner, and injured himself in the summer. Finding a second half marathon proved elusive, so in order to fulfil the bet – his family believed he would never complete two! – we have set up a run with Mr Triathlon himself, Don Hutchinson.
If you fancy a run, and would like to support Justin, please come along – even for part of the trip, which will be alongside the guided busway, starting at 9:30 am on Sunday 16 December from the Future Business Centre, in Kings Hedges Road. If you prefer not to run, please bring some warm clothes and your voice and support. And regardless, please donate through Justin’s MyDonate page.
Varsity Matches 2018
Congratulations to Kate Marks and her Women’s team on their victory by the tight margin of 8-5 at Twickenham. Celebrating 30 years of Women’s Varsity Matches, it was marvellous to see them on TV, if it was the Red Button on the BBC. Commiserations to the Men, who were beaten by a more experienced Oxford team. It was a great spectacle and it shows that amateur rugby still has a place in our hearts.
It was a particular thrill to see players giving their all, whom we had met at the University Rugby Club Power House Games back in September. That event was such a success we are repeating it in 2019 and the University Cricket Club are in negotiations to have a similar event at the end of next term.

Give to Power2Inspire through Amazon Smile. James Powley – rackets expert at Cambridge University Sports Centre and working with us on connecting the University sports clubs to our Power House Games; and Dan of HomeTechWorks, a life saving IT support service that troubleshoots digital home technology in South Cambs. They have both used Amazon Smile to give – at no cost to themselves! – to Power2inspire.

Cambridge Half Marathon 2019
We are delighted to announce that Power 2 Inspire has acquired a number of Gold Bond places for the Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon on Sunday 3rd March 2019.
The flat, single loop course takes runners on a scenic tour of the beautiful city of Cambridge. Winding through the centre of this historic university city, it passes the Round Church, Kings College, Fitzwilliam Museum and The Backs.
Since the inaugural event in 2012, the Cambridge Half Marathon has established itself as one of the UK’s leading closed road Half Marathons. The event has grown from 3,000 to 10,000 runners and is one of the UK’s fastest selling running events, selling out in just a matter of days.
We invite you to undertake a spectacular flat, fast route with plenty of PB potential through the historic city of Cambridge, with 10,000 runners of all abilities, whilst fundraising for Power 2 Inspire.
Demand for entries is higher than ever, therefore we encourage you to secure your places here to begin your spring marathon training!
