Power2Inspire hosted eighth Festival of Inclusive Golf at Cambridge Lakes Golf Course, sponsored by Taylor Vinters

We hosted our eighth Festival of Inclusive Golf at Cambridge Lakes Golf Course, on Friday 24th June. The nine hole, par three course, hidden behind the trees off the Trumpington Road in South Cambridge, made the ideal setting for afternoon of fun, inclusive golf and promised excitement for everyone involved.

The event, sponsored by Taylor Vinters, brought together the local community who teamed-up to play golf under the ‘Texas scramble rules’, ensuring everyone was able to contribute to their team’s score.

John Willis, Founder and Chief Ambassador of Power2Inspire, said:

“We were delighted to host our eighth Festival of Inclusive Golf at Cambridge Lakes Golf Course. Every year, the event has proved a huge success with both disabled and able-bodied players enjoying the day. It really is fun for all the family – designed so that everyone can take part.

“Each team is partnered with a disabled player, this ensures the event is truly inclusive. Inclusion in sport is at the heart of what we do.

“We are extremely grateful to Taylor Vinters for sponsoring the event meaning we could offer tickets for free – and to Cambridge Lakes Golf Course for providing us with such a fantastic location once again. It is an honour to join the community in playing such accessible and friendly golf.”

A spokesperson from Taylor Vinters, said:

“It was our pleasure to have sponsored the Power2Inspire Festival of Inclusive Golf. Power2Inspire, along with their volunteers, work tirelessly to ensure that no-one is “left on the bench” regardless of disability, faith, gender, ethnicity or any other characteristic. Their efforts are unrelenting and inspiring, and we are incredibly proud to have partnered with them this year to help them deliver their range of sporting events.

“Taylor Vinters has been aiming to make an impact through volunteer work with the local community, and aligning with Power2Inspire has helped us to achieve that. The Festival of Inclusive Golf was a perfect way for us to continue to support Power2Inspire’s mission, whilst also showing our appreciation for everything John and his wonderful staff and volunteers continue to do.

“It has been fantastic watching the charity grow from strength to strength, and we look forward to continuing to support them.”

Mahesh Daryanani, Trainee Lawyer at Freshfields, said:

“I found out about Power2Inspire through the Enabled network at my workplace. Enabled is a network that encourages disabled people to get involved with community events. I really enjoying playing golf under the ‘Texas scramble’ rules as it allows the game to be more relaxed and less analytical. I will definitely be attending more of Power2Inspire’s sports events in the future.”

Janette Taylor, event attendee, said:

“I’ve attended lots of Power2Inspire’s events previously, I love the golf because it really doesn’t matter about your ability to play golf, it’s about having fun and enjoying yourself. The rules are fantastic and means everyone can take part – it really is inclusive.”

James Watts, Operations Director of Cambridge Lakes Golf Course, said:

“Golf at Kingsway will always be accessible to everyone and it is a great privilege to be part of something that has such strong links to the community. The facilities at Cambridge are perfect to bring golfers of all ages and abilities together and we were thrilled to support Power2Inspire.”

Huge thank you to everyone who came along to support us, we look forward to seeing you next year!
