Getting YOUR company involved in a University PowerHouseGames
The University PowerHouseGames are inclusive sports days, integrating state, independent and special-needs school students alongside university student and corporate volunteers. They are a fantastic opportunity for corporate volunteers to get involved with a local inclusive event, to practice leadership skills in a safe environment, and to grow confidence in collaborating with people with disabilities in a team situation.

In its full form University PowerHouseGames have teams of six people (from special needs, state and independent schools) led by a local company employee. Each volunteer receives:
- Training on how to play the games and teach the students the inclusive games (with support)
- The opportunity to practice their leadership skills in a safe environment
- Learning on how to engage with disabled youngsters and overcome unusual situations
- The confidence to deal with disabled people in ‘real life’
- The chance to practice collaboration, creativity, persuasion and adaptability – all key soft skills (Identified in 2020 by Forbes as key employee skills).

All our volunteers have lauded the PowerHouseGames, one exclaiming it was the best corporate bonding day she had been on. The sessions bring corporate groups together – helping others to have fun is a truly powerful way to cement a team.
As one volunteer said:
“I feel like I’ve made a real difference to other people’s lives!”
and a corporate volunteer from PEM:
“The Power House Games was a great event… I was nervous about doing some activities that I had never done before but they were well explained and easy to participate in. I had fun meeting everyone and getting to know the children of all abilities. Everyone looked like they had a great time and I would definitely recommend this to everyone… – no sporting prowess needed at all!!”

The University PowerHouseGames takes place over a morning with volunteers starting training at 8:45am and finishing with sandwiches and a debrief by 1:15pm.
We need 12 to 18 volunteers – one to lead each of the 12 teams, and a further six to supervise each station. We are open to two or more companies providing the volunteers which opens up further networking opportunities.
Volunteers attend in comfortable attire – wearing very colourful T-shirts as you can see – so that they can move easily between all the inclusive sports. All the games can be played at the pace the participants prefer!
We ask volunteers to complete a pre-games and a post-games questionnaire accessed online so that we can learn of their experiences.
A company’s financial contribution is tailored to each individual situation and will contribution to the costs of putting on the event – venue hire, equipment, school travel costs, the t-shirts (featuring the corporate logo) and a donation the charity.
